What goes into making a great photograph? It's a lot more than setting up a camera, posing the family, then telling everyone to look at you and smile. The truth is, there are several little details that go in to each and every photo session. Here are only a few off the top... 
First, you'll want a photographer that has some background in photography. You'll want someone that you can trust behind the camera, because you are investing not only your time, but also your hard earned money. This is a must. 
Next, choosing great light over location. Before my photography days, I believed (like so many others) that a great photograph really depends on the background. But the truth is the lighting is what really makes a great photo! Who knew? After all, the Greek translation is "painting with light". The lighting will determine what time of day your photo session is held. Golden hour (an hour before sunset) being my favorite.

Finally,  have someone that can help make you and your family feel comfortable. Who likes getting their photo taken? Not too many! Most of us have some kind of anxiety in the idea of having to force a smile for an hour or two. You'll want to feel relaxed. Whether it happens by bringing a supportive friend that knows what makes you belly laugh, having a few practice shots to get you in to "model mode" or just letting your children run around when they need a wiggle break, let's make it happen! You won't necessarily remember how the session went, but you will remember how you felt.
