Last weekend, Travis and I traveled to Portland to photograph Ryan and Gretchen’s wedding. I actually met them for the first time at Ryan’s sister’s wedding earlier this year. You can check out their wedding here. It’s always such a joy to work with the same family more than once!
Ryan and Gretchen were married in Gretchen’s parents’ backyard. Now, if you’re like Travis and me, your backyard is probably nothing to write home about, haha. But their backyard had been transformed into something straight out of a wedding magazine! Between the stunning florals and beautiful décor, this had to be one of the most colorful weddings we’ve ever photographed. Not to mention, all the flowers made the entire yard smell amazing!
Every wedding is fun and exciting, but I could tell from the very beginning that this one was going to be full of energy! Ryan and Gretchen were surrounded by so many wonderful friends and family members who came together to make their day truly special. Their wedding party was on top of every detail and ready to meet any need Ryan or Gretchen had. A few of them even came to ask us if we needed anything. How sweet is that?
Ryan and Gretchen’s ceremony was beautiful… and hilarious. Bittersweet tears were mixed with tears of laughter. And the joy didn’t end there. The entire evening was filled with laughter and happy tears as Ryan and Gretchen individually thanked the people who had helped make their wedding day so memorable. They also took time to honor the memory of loved ones who are no longer with them, making them a meaningful part of their celebration.
The reception included plenty of dancing, an outfit change by Gretchen, and lots of glitter! And remember how I said this wedding had energy? Well, it definitely came out at the reception! Not only was there nonstop dancing throughout the evening, but we were also treated to a surprise performance of “Super Trouper” by ABBA. Several members of the wedding party took the floor and absolutely nailed it. It was hilarious!
Overall, this wedding was truly incredible, and I’m so thankful we had the opportunity to be a part of it. Congratulations, Ryan and Gretchen! Travis and I wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness together!
